Pop Star

From Miitopia Central

The Pop Star (Japanese: アイドル Idol) is a job in Miitopia. It is one of the six jobs available at the beginning of the game along with the Warrior, Mage, Cleric, Thief, and Chef. As such, it is also one of the jobs that are playable in the Demo.

The Pop Star is the only job with "subclasses", which are referred to as the Male Pop Star and the Female Pop Star in the Nintendo 3DS version; these labels have since been removed in the Nintendo Switch version and are now only represented by their respective icons. The differences between the two subclasses are purely cosmetic and any Mii can be assigned either subclass regardless of gender.

In the Nintendo Switch version trailers, the Pop Star represented is primarily female and is represented by either a Mii named Lilly in the western region[1] or Nanami (ななみ) by Nintendo of Japan[2], or a Mii named Gwen[3].

Job description[edit]

Miitopia[edit]

"Inspires the party with boundless energy and the magic of song!"

Nintendo official site[edit]

"This triple threat is great for boosting team morale via song, dance, and battle."[4]

Gameplay[edit]

The Pop Star focuses on a support role, particularly in boosting relationships with the party as well as recovery; it is the only job that can directly affect relationship. The Pop Star is able to mend quarrels easily through Love & Peace, as well as temporarily increase its relationship with the rest of the party through Love Song, allowing it and other party members to perform more Assists they may not have had access to before. As with other jobs with recovery skills, the Pop Star can boost its friendship with the party through using those skills.

It can also fight back through distracting enemies with Earworm or directly dealing damage with Out of Tune or Way Out of Tune, which deals damage to all enemies. The Pop Star can also choose to give its turn to a different party member, allowing them to perform an extra action.

In the Nintendo Switch version, a Hero with the Pop Star job can use the Horse-Whispering Pop Star assist, which is an all-target support that fully restores all allies' HP and inflicts them with the Excite status, which triples their damage in exchange of restricting them to using basic attacks only. On the enemy side, each enemy has 60% chance of being afflicted by the Dance status when this assist is used.

Though the Pop Star has one of the highest max HP stats among the jobs, its low Defense still leaves it vulnerable to enemies with high Attack.

Stuff[edit]

Main articles: Mic, Threads, and Outfit

The job's main weapon is the Mic which increases Attack, and its basic attack targets all enemies, but the strength progressively weakens as it goes down the line. The Pop Star has two types of clothing depending on the subclass chosen: the Female Pop Star wears Outfits while the Male Pop Star wears Threads. Every Outfit comes with a ribbon as headpiece, while every Threads set comes with a hat as headpiece. Both of these clothes increase the same amount of Defense. Both subclasses can wear amiibo clothing.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Pop Star is one of the few jobs in Miitopia with a unique walking animation during a level. Other jobs with unique walking animations include the Thief, the Chef, the Cat, the Tank, the Flower, and the Vampire.
    • The Pop Star has a more poised walking style with outstretched arms, likely to accomodate for the Female Pop Star's clothing.
  • The Mii characters representing the Male and Female Pop Stars in the Nintendo 3DS version are also the default Mii characters assigned to the Lovey-Dovey Couple in the Nintendo Switch version, albeit with brown hair instead of black in the case of the Male Pop Star and darkened skin and hair with a different shade of brown in the case of the Female Pop Star.
